The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a significant operational success with the rescue of all 18 passengers abducted during the Otukpo kidnapping incident involving a Benue Links bus on 15 April 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the breakthrough followed coordinated clearance operations conducted by operatives of the Benue State Police Command across the Amla Forest corridor and adjoining areas, acting on credible intelligence.
The operation led to the safe rescue of the remaining 13 victims, bringing the total number of rescued passengers to 18, including eight students who were travelling to Otukpo to sit for their UTME examinations. All rescued victims have undergone medical evaluation, are confirmed to be in stable condition, and will be reunited with their families after necessary debriefing procedures.
Seven suspects were arrested in connection with the incident, with three already positively identified as members of the kidnapping syndicate. Investigations are ongoing to track down other fleeing accomplices and dismantle the wider criminal network behind the attack.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the officers involved for their professionalism, resilience, and operational success, while directing the continued intensification of clearance operations within the Otukpo axis to further strengthen security and prevent future incidents.
The Police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property nationwide, urging citizens to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information.
