Earlier today, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, officially commissioned the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE), a state-of-the-art 500-bed tertiary hospital located in Abuja. The centre mark a significant milestone in Nigeria’s healthcare sector as the largest specialised private hospital in Nigeria and West Africa.
The AMCE was developed by NNPC Limited in partnership with Afreximbank to provide advanced medical services, including oncology, haematology, cardiology, and general healthcare. The hospital also collaborates with King’s College Hospital, London, to ensure world-class diagnostics and treatment standards.
Speaking on behalf of NNPC Limited’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, Executive Vice President of Business Services, Sophia Mbakwe highlighted the importance of this partnership as part of NNPC’s strategic diversification efforts. She noted that the project reflects the company’s commitment to investing in the non-oil sector and enhancing healthcare delivery, thereby creating lasting value for stakeholders and promoting societal development.
The commissioning of the AMCE is expected to significantly improve access to specialised healthcare services in Nigeria and the wider West African region, reinforcing NNPC’s role in driving sustainable development beyond the energy sector.
