The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has received a financial contribution from the NUJ FCTA Chapel in support of its ongoing Multipurpose Congress Hall construction project, with the chapel making history as the first NUJ chapel to formally donate to the initiative.
The donation was presented during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the FCTA Chapel to the NUJ FCT Council Secretariat. The delegation was led by the Chairperson, Ngozi Ufomba, and included the Vice Chairman, Hassan Sadiq; Secretary, Niyi Lawal; and Press Week Secretary, Odugbo Sarah.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Council, the Vice Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Yahaya Ndambabo, expressed profound appreciation for the gesture, describing it as a remarkable demonstration of solidarity and commitment to the success of the Congress Hall project.
He commended the leadership and members of the FCTA Chapel for taking the initiative, noting that the donation would be formally recorded as part of the project’s history. According to him, the chapel’s collective decision to support the construction project reflects a strong sense of responsibility and ownership of the union’s development.
Ndambabo urged other NUJ chapels and members to emulate the FCTA Chapel by contributing to the completion of the project. He stressed that the union belongs to all journalists and called on members to play active roles in strengthening the association through meaningful support.
He further encouraged journalists to see their contributions to the union as investments in the future of the media profession and nation-building.
The Multipurpose Congress Hall project, which had its groundbreaking ceremony during the Council’s first anniversary last year, entered the construction phase earlier this year and has continued to attract support and goodwill from members and stakeholders.
Ndambabo noted that the project has recorded significant progress, attributing its momentum to the dedication and leadership of the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike. He expressed confidence that the vision of delivering a modern and functional congress hall before the end of her first tenure would be achieved.
He also disclosed that the Council would formally convey its appreciation to the FCTA Chapel through an official letter, while expressing optimism that the landmark donation would inspire other NUJ chapels to support the historic project.
The donation by the FCTA Chapel mark another significant milestone in the Council’s drive to provide a befitting congress hall that will serve journalists and the media community in the Federal Capital Territory for years to come.
