Troops of the Nigerian Army, with the support of the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, from bandits who abducted her alongside her husband several weeks ago.
The rescue was achieved following intensified search-and-rescue operations conducted by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA, who sustained pressure on the criminal elements through a series of offensive actions in the affected areas.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village during one of the operations, leading to the successful recovery of Mrs. Abubakar.
The statement revealed that in the course of the encounter, the bandits shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing due to the overwhelming pressure mounted by advancing troops.
Mrs. Abubakar was immediately evacuated from the scene and taken to a military hospital, where she is currently receiving medical attention and responding positively to treatment.
“The leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to ensuring her full recovery and is providing all necessary support to her family during this difficult period,” the statement said.
The military also assured Nigerians that troops would continue ongoing operations to track down and neutralise the perpetrators, while intensifying efforts to rid Katsina State and other parts of the country of terrorists and bandits.
Major General Uba reiterated the commitment of the Armed Forces to restoring peace and security across the nation through sustained operations against criminal and terrorist elements.
The successful rescue is being seen as a significant breakthrough in ongoing military efforts to combat insecurity and secure the release of victims held captive by armed groups across the country.
